su&j^st: Exhaust System Acoustic Test Site - Huntsville

This memo is prepared to outline available facilities at Huntsville Alabama for
possible use in performing exhaust system and vehicle ambient noise testing at a con
             trolled test site.

The primary test facility is an abandoned city airport located near the center of
Huntsville. The only present use for the airport is to house an Alabama State Patrol
Branch in the old control tower, airline office building. The airport was abandoned in
1968 when a new jetport complex was built 15 miles west of the city.

The Huntsville climate is suitable for year round testing and is within a days
drive of Detroit. A Chrysler contractor (Arvin) has a track operating daily through
Huntsville to a plant in Alabama.

A 60, 000 ft^ contractor facility is available adjacent to the abandoned city air
port. This contractor is currently fabricating complete pro stock, fueler, and modified
              rail drag cars.

This facility is equipped for machining, welding (gas, heliarc, arc, etc.) tube
bending (power to 2 1/2"). Exhaust systems are routinely fabricated for special custom
installations on street vehicles, tracks, and race cars, A car lift is available as well as
              floor jacks and stands.

This facility is available immediately on an hourly rate basis using contractor
personnel at $10. 00 per hour. Personnel available can perform all required exhaust
system changes at these local non-union shop rates for routine parts exchanges including
shop charges. Special pieces can be fabricated at slightly higher rates.

Office space can be made available in the building or constructed as an add-on
enclosure. An adjacent building leased by an auto parts store may be available in the
near future. This building is 30' x 60* with an area for vehicle work (no floor hoist),
heating, cooling, and rents for approximately $475 - $500 per month.
